The ProblemWhen it rains at Kapālama, it REALLY rains. Mini waterfalls pop up all over campus and in some places, it floods. When building Kamehameha schools, the people in charge were focused simply on directing the water and making sure it didn't flood the school. But what if we used that water instead of just directing it? Imagine what we could do with all that water!

The SolutionThink about it... Do plants need purified water? Really think about it.
We did, and figured, no they don't. We waste time, energy, and resources by filtering and cleaning water that goes right back into the ground anyway. Why use clean, purified water to water plants when they're constantly growing in and surrounded by dirt anyway? Why not be more efficient and sustainable in our water usage, and use semi-clean rain water to water our plants? We asked ourselves these questions and they're what built the foundation for our project. |
